The Department of Health does not have figures on deaths due to alcohol related medical causes (such as liver disease) or trauma (such as road traffic collisions, falls or drownings). The Health Research Board is preparing an overview of alcohol-related issues including health harms and will present data on alcohol-related deaths due to poisoning, trauma and medical conditions between 2008 and 2013 shortly.

In December, 2015 the Health Research Board presented figures from the National Drug-Related Deaths Index (NDRDI) on deaths due to poisoning by alcohol and/or other drugs, and deaths among drug users for the period 2004-2013. The report 'Drug-related deaths and deaths among drug users in Ireland: 2013 figures from the National Drug-Related Deaths Index' states that alcohol was involved in 35% of poisoning deaths and that alcohol alone was responsible for 15% of poisoning deaths.
