834. Deputy Anne Rabbitte asked the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs to provide a gender breakdown of children in State care and in foster care at present. [21343/16]
Amharc ar fhreagraTusla, the Child and Family Agency, has a statutory duty under the Child Care Act 1991 to promote the welfare of children who are not receiving adequate care and protection and, if necessary, to receive a child into the care of the State. I have been informed that the most recent information available from Tusla on the gender breakdown of children in State care is for the end of 2014. The following table shows the total number of children in care broken down by gender and placement type for 2013 and 2014:
