1578. Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if funding will be allocated to the upgrade of the R346 Cross to Cong Road in County Mayo in 2017; the amount to be allocated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1038/17]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads in Mayo (including the R346) is the statutory responsibility of Mayo County Council, in accordance with the provisions of Section 13 of the Roads Act 1993. Works on those roads are funded from the Council's own resources supplemented by State road grants. The initial selection and prioritisation of works to be funded is also a matter for the Council. My Department paid €387,178 to Mayo County Council under the Specific Improvement Grants Programme in respect of the R346 in 2016. I will be announcing the 2017 grant allocations shortly.
