591. Deputy Noel Rock asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade his views on the fact that the US Administration has failed to name a new US ambassador to Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13233/17]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe appointment of Ambassadors by the United States is a matter for the US authorities, in accordance with the relevant US legal and constitutional provisions. Pending the nomination and confirmation – by the US President and Senate respectively - of a new US Ambassador to Ireland, we will continue to engage closely with the US Embassy in Dublin under the leadership of its designated Chargé d’Affaires. We look forward to the arrival of a new US Ambassador in due course.
