289. Deputy Peter Burke asked the Minister for Health the approach taken by DPS, drugs payment scheme, pharmacists when a patient runs out of medication before the calendar month is up; if there are instances where patients must pay €144 twice in one month; if this is taken into account at the end of the year in cases where patients could have made up to 14 monthly payments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the Health (Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods) Act 2013, the HSE has statutory responsibility for the administration of the community drug schemes; therefore, the matter has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy.
