189. Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Protection if an exceptional needs payment will issue in the case of a person (details supplied); the progress in this case to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24963/17]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe person concerned made an application for an Exceptional Needs Payment towards funeral expenses. Following an examination of the application and all supporting documentation a decision was made to refuse the application; a written notification of this refusal issued to the person concerned on the 7th of April. The basis for the refusal was that the person concerned was deemed to have sufficient resources available to them, over and above the weekly rate of Supplementary Welfare Allowance applicable to their circumstances, to meet the expense incurred.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
