Deputy Catherine Martin asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the reason, during a housing crisis, a site (details supplied) of which he is the registered owner is on the Dublin City Council register of vacant sites; his plans for the site; and when it will be put back into use. Amharc ar fhreagraI am advised by the Irish Prison Service that it is in detailed discussions with Dublin City Council and Novas, an approved housing body involved in the provision of social housing, regarding the future use of the site in question and how it might be developed in the context of the Government’s homeless strategy. In this regard I can advise the Deputy that Novas sought and obtained planning approval for a development comprising of apartments and a commercial unit on the site. Development work has not yet commenced pending the outcome of discussions with the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform regarding the terms of the disposal of land concerned.
