510. Deputy Clare Daly asked the Minister for Justice and Equality his views on the privacy and data protection implications of a company requiring persons who hold accounts with them to provide their PPS numbers in order to continue holding an account with the company. [46140/17]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe position appears to be that financial institutions are required to seek the PPSN of all persons opening a new account in accordance with the Return of Payments Regulations (S.I. No 136 of 2008). A Guidance Note on use of the PPSN for these purposes has been prepared by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in consultation with the Revenue Commissioners and is available on the Data Protection Commissioner's website, www.dataprotection.ie.
