218. Deputy Michael Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government the way in which water charges will be dealt with for students paying the charge through property management companies (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [47213/17]
Amharc ar fhreagraThe Water Services Bill 2017 is currently being considered by the Oireachtas. The Bill provides for Irish Water to make refunds to customers who paid domestic water charges since 1 January 2015. In making the refunds the guiding principle for Irish Water will be to make refunds directly to the account holder. In the instance where a Management Company is the Irish Water account holder and where that company paid domestic water charges it will be necessary for the individuals concerned who paid their water charges through this medium to engage with the relevant management company. I understand that Irish Water has, as part of the preparations for making refunds, engaged with the Residential Landlords Association of Ireland to ensure that the refund of domestic water charges operates as efficiently and effectively as possible in landlord/tenant situations.
