Durkan asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the current and-or expected residency status in the case of persons (details supplied); if the case will be examined as a matter of urgency with a view to naturalisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraFrom the limited information provided, it appears that the person concerned currently has no permission to remain in the State, and they should be aware that under section 5 of the Immigration Act 2004 it is unlawful for a non-national to be in the State other than in accordance with the terms of any permission given by the Minister for Justice and Equality. As the person in question does not appear to have immigration permission to remain in the State, they are not entitled to work. Against this background, the person concerned should be advised to write to Unit 2 Residence Division, INIS, Burgh Quay, Dublin 2 without delay and to include their current address, an outline of their history in the State, and a full copy of their passport or passports since their arrival in the State.
Queries in relation to the status of individual immigration cases may be made directly to the INIS of my Department by e-mail using the Oireachtas Mail facility which has been specifically established for this purpose. This service enables up to date information on such cases to be obtained without the need to seek information by way of the Parliamentary Questions process. The Deputy may consider using the e-mail service except in cases where the response from the INIS is, in the Deputy's view, inadequate or too long awaited.
