Richard Boyd Barrett

Ceist:

483. Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett asked the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment further to the extension to the licence that has recently been granted to a company (details supplied) to drill at the Kish bank, if the company would also need a foreshore licence to establish an exploratory rig in this area if it was to activate the licence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Standard Exploration Licence 2/11 which is located in the Kish Bank Basin, off the coast of Dublin, was granted on 18 August 2011. The Licence is operated by Providence Resources Plc. In November 2016 the overall term of this licence was extended by a period of one year to 17 August 2020. This decision was based on the voluntary surrender of 55% of the acreage by the operator. Any proposal to drill a well on the foreshore would require a foreshore licence from the Minister of Housing, Planning and Local Government.
