Section 19(1) of the National Cultural Institutions Act, 1997 (the 1997 Act) provides that the Board of the National Museum of Ireland shall consist of a chairperson and not less than 13 or more than 15 ordinary members.
In 2013 and 2014 there was one vacancy on the Board of the Museum. In 2015, the terms of office of 8 Board members expired and a further 7 expired in 2016.
In July 2016 my predecessor appointed a new Board, comprising 16 members including the Chair, to the National Museum of Ireland.
Since July 2016 three vacancies have arisen on the Board of the National Museum of Ireland two of which occurred in 2017 and one in 2018.
Officials in my Department are working with the National Museum of Ireland to fill these vacancies which includes the preparation of the appropriate call for expressions of interest to serve on the Board which will be advertised on
www.StateBoards.ie. The procedure for the filling of the staff representative vacancy is set out in the 1997 Act.
