Deputy Timmy Dooley asked the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment the reason that while hotels can avail of a single hotel licence for multiple televisions in the same property holiday home owners must purchase an individual licence for a number of properties resulting in considerable costs. Amharc ar fhreagraCurrently, only one class of TV licence exists and this covers any number of devices so long as they are all in the same property (residential or commercial).
In accordance with Section 142 of the Broadcasting Act 2009, any premises at which a television is located requires a TV Licence regardless of its use. Therefore, owners and controlling management companies of all holiday home accommodation premises which include a television set, are required to purchase a separate TV Licence for each accommodation unit.
