198. Deputy Bernard J. Durkan asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the basis on which an appeal for a carer's allowance was disallowed in the case of a person (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [25894/19]
Amharc ar fhreagraI am advised by the Social Welfare Appeals Office that the appeal by the person concerned was against a decision of a Deciding Officer that they had failed to supply all requested information in relation to their entitlement to carer's allowance and, therefore, they had not fully disclosed their means. An Appeals Officer, having fully considered all of the available evidence including that adduced at the oral hearing, decided to disallow the appeal of the person concerned.
The Social Welfare Appeals Office functions independently of the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection and of the Department and is responsible for determining appeals against decisions in relation to social welfare entitlements.
I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
