John Brady

2811. Deputy John Brady asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if her attention has been drawn to the fact that an organisation (details supplied) representing lone parents has carried out research on child maintenance and is calling for a statutory child maintenance agency; if this option will be examined with the Minister for Justice and Equality; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I am well aware of the calls for the establishment of a child maintenance agency by various bodies in the community and voluntary sector. Issues relating to maintenance are a matter for my colleague, the Minister for Justice and Equality, who has responsibility for the Family Law Acts, which govern maintenance requirements. I understand that this matter is being considered within the Department of Justice and Equality.
