There has been an unprecedented level of investment in Garda resources across the State in recent years. The allocation to An Garda Síochána for 2019 amounts to €1.76 billion as well as capital investment amounting to €92 million this year.

The management and efficient use of Garda resources is the responsibility of the Garda Commissioner and his management team, having regard to operational need.  Further, under the Garda Síochána Act 2005, as amended, the Garda Commissioner is responsible for managing and controlling generally the administration and business of An Garda Síochána.  This includes responsibility for matters including the opening hours of Garda stations and the allocation of personnel.  As Minister, I have no role in such matters.  I am assured however that Garda management keeps the distribution of resources under continual review in the context of crime trends and policing priorities, to ensure their optimum use.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that since 2009, the Garda stations situated at Pearse Street, Kevin Street, Kilmainham and Irishtown have all been open 24 hours a day.  I am further informed that Donnybrook Garda station was open 24 hours daily from 2009 to 2011. Since 2012, it has been open from 7am to 9pm on a daily basis.
