Deputy Seán Haughey asked the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the reason employees must pay PRSI after the age of 66 years if they are still working even though these contributions cannot be used to determine the rate of payment to be awarded on their State pensions (contributory); and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraEmployees between the ages of 16 and pensionable age (currently 66 years) are liable to pay PRSI at a Class and rate determined by the conditions of their employment and their weekly earnings.
Currently, where a person aged 66 and over is in employment, no employee or employer contributions are payable and their employment is recorded as Class M.
