Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Minister for Education and Skills if he will provide a schedule of school buildings that are not occupied by county; the duration the buildings have been unoccupied; his plans for the buildings that are not going to be occupied going forward; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Where a school relocates or closes, the future use of the old building is a matter for the property owner. In general, where former schools are not required for educational use, such properties may be used for community or other purposes or may be sold. Therefore, the Department does not hold details of current usage of former school buildings in private ownership.
