Deputy Seán Haughey asked the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if she will bring forward policy measures to discourage persons from feeding seagulls in parks and public open spaces generally in view of the nuisance this creates; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department's responsibilities include the protection and conservation of bird species including seagulls under national and EU legislation.  I do not have the powers to control the feeding of bird species by members of the public in public open spaces which are matters for consideration by individual local authorities.
