Ceisteanna (138)

Rose Conway-Walsh

Ceist:

138. Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh asked the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science the drop-out rate of apprenticeships over the past ten years; the breakdown between craft apprentices and new apprenticeships for as many years as are available in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Apprentices are primarily employees. Where apprentices are made redundant then supports are in place through the Authorised Officers within the Education and Training Boards to seek an alternative approved employer to allow apprentices to continue their apprenticeship.

The apprentice register does not hold an indicator for apprentices who have failed to complete their programme of study.  A review of the register is underway to identify the rate of non-completion of apprenticeships within a specified time period. The information will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as it becomes available.
