Deputy Catherine Murphy asked the Minister for Education her plans to modernise a circular (details supplied); the position on the employment status of physical education teachers; the number of physical education teachers on the payroll of her Department; and the reason for excluding them from incremental credit. Regarding incremental credit the criteria for the award of incremental credit to recognised teachers was agreed under the auspices of the Teachers Conciliation Council (TCC). This Council is comprised of representatives of teachers, school management, the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform, the Department of Education and is chaired by an official of the Workplace Relations Commission.
The criteria for the award of incremental credit is laid out in my Department's Circulars 29/2007 and 29/2010 for Post-Primary teachers. For the purposes of your query the relevant Circular is 29/2007.
My Department is making inquiries in relation to the application for incremental credit that has been raised and will reply to the Deputy in writing once we have finalised these inquiries.
