448. Deputy Holly Cairns asked the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media the way in which her Department and agencies under her remit are meeting obligations under the Irish Sign Language Act 2017; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17436/21]
Amharc ar fhreagraI am advised that both my Department and those agencies under its remit are in compliance with the requirement under Section 6 of the Irish Sign Language Act 2017. This requires public bodies to provide interpretation into Irish Sign Language, free of any charge, for a person who cannot hear or understand English or Irish when accessing services provided by that body. Interpretation services are made available on request by cultural institutions such as IMMA and the Department has also taken steps to ensure that ISL interpretation is available at public events such as the annual National Famine Commemoration.
