Deputy Thomas Pringle asked the Minister for Education if her Department will undertake a feasibility study into secondary schools registering 16 and 17 year olds to vote in preparation for the franchise being extended to those aged 16 years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage is the relevant Department responsible for the legislation dealing with the registration of electors and the conduct of elections and referendums. My Department does not have a role in such matters.
