83. Deputy Sean Sherlock asked the Minister for Transport if a matter raised in correspondence by a person (details supplied) in relation to medical examinations for a driver licence will receive a response. [26837/21]
Amharc ar fhreagraIn January, in light of the resurgence of Covid-19 cases and, in order to ease the burden on medical services, my Department extended the exemption that allows for those aged over 70 to apply for a driving licence without the need to provide a medical report to 30 June 2021. The previous exemption ended on 31 December 2020. The exemption only applies to those applicants who do not have an identified or specified illness, or are not applying for a bus or truck category.
At this time, I do not intend to extend the medical report exemption further.
