Ceisteanna (75)

Pearse Doherty

Ceist:

75. Deputy Pearse Doherty asked the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media if her Department will undertake a feasibility study and liaise with Donegal County Council and other relevant statutory bodies with responsibility for the development of tourism in the north-west to identify an appropriate funding stream for the design and construction of a rope-bridge structure at the Owencarrow Viaducts in Creeslough, County Donegal. My Department's role in relation to tourism lies primarily in the area of national tourism policy. Implementation of that policy is a matter for the tourism agencies, Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland, as well as other bodies. With regard to tourism product development, decisions regarding funding priorities are operational matters for Fáilte Ireland. Accordingly, I have asked Fáilte Ireland to respond directly to the Deputy with further information on its collaboration with Donegal County Council on tourism generally and its views on the rope-bridge structure about which the Deputy is enquiring.
