Ceist:

265. Deputy Steven Matthews asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage the position regarding the number of properties on the derelict sites register in Wicklow County Council; his views on the merits of updating elected representatives within the local authority area on a quarterly basis on the latest statistics; and if he will make a statement on the matter. On 31 December 2020, which is the latest date for which data is available in my Department, Wicklow County Council had 4 sites listed on its Derelict Sites register. Data in respect of the end of 2021 is due to be collected in the coming months.

While the Derelict Sites Act 1990 does not require local authorities to publish their Derelict Sites Registers on their websites, section 8(5) provides that the register shall be kept at the offices of the local authority and shall be available for inspection at the offices of the local authority during office hours. The issue of elected members being updated of the latest statistics on derelict sites in their functional area on a quarterly basis is a matter for local authorities.
