Deputy Joe Carey asked the Minister for Justice if she will report on the provision of a new immigration unit at Shannon Airport which is being developed in conjunction with the OPW and the Shannon Group; when it is expected that works will commence; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department is responsible for immigration controls and permissions at Dublin Airport. Immigration duties at all other airports and ports of entry to the State, including Shannon Airport, are the responsibility of the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB). My Department is therefore not involved in the development of the new immigration unit referred to by the Deputy.
However, to be of assistance, I have forwarded the Deputy’s query to An Garda Síochána and the Office of Public Works for their attention and direct reply.
