Deputy Claire Kerrane asked the Minister for Transport if his attention has been drawn to long waiting times for persons requiring NCT tests; if this will have consequences for persons waiting; the reason persons now have to pay upfront for NCT tests; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe operation of the National Car Test (NCT) service is the statutory responsibility of the Road Safety Authority. I have therefore referred the question to the Authority for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a response has not been received within ten days.
It is however worth noting that under road traffic legislation, all vehicle owners must be in possession of a valid roadworthiness certificate for their vehicle while it is being used in public places or on public roads. Enforcement of road traffic legislation is a matter for An Garda Síochána.
