Deputy Steven Matthews asked the Minister for Transport if he will review the existing costs associated with maintaining a driving licence for persons over the age of 70 years; if any consideration is being given to reducing these costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThere is no application fee for a driving licence for persons aged 70 years or over.
In February 2022, the age requirement for drivers to provide a medical report with their licence application, confirming their fitness to drive, was increased from 70 to 75.
While I appreciate that there is a cost in obtaining a medical report, medical checks are required for road safety reasons as age-related deterioration can affect a person's ability to drive.
