Deputy Carol Nolan asked the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media the details of the funding her Department has allocated to organisations, groups or persons in order to combat misinformation and disinformation online, in print and in broadcasting media from 1 January 2020 to date; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraMy Department has not allocated funding to organisations, groups or persons in order to combat misinformation and disinformation online during the period of time specified by the Deputy.
I understand, however, that the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI), as an independent regulatory authority and as a member of the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services (ERGA), has supported the work of ERGA in monitoring the implementation of the European Commission's Code of Practice on Disinformation during the period of time specified.
