Deputy Ged Nash asked the Minister for Justice her Department's position given the recent decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions not to proceed with additional prosecutions on the need for a commission of inquiry into the conduct of a former doctor and convicted abuser (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) decides whether or not someone should be prosecuted and for what crime. I am unable to intervene in, or comment on, this independent process.
As the Deputy will be aware, in October 2009 the then Minister for Health established an independent non-statutory review - the “Drogheda Review”, to advise on whether a further investigation into the procedures and practices at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital (OLOL) Drogheda during the period 1964 to 1995 would be of significant public benefit. The report of this review was submitted to the then Minister for Health in September 2010.
