My Department already provides multi-annual funding for An Taibhdhearc. The funding agreement in place provides current funding of €320,000 annually and the three-year agreement currently in place will expire in 2023.

An Taibhdhearc is an important cultural institution in many ways, not least for Irish language communities and for the cultural fabric of Galway City, but also for the performing arts sector as many actors and production staff gain their initial experience in An Taibhdhearc before securing further opportunities in the performing arts sector.

The multi-annual funding currently provided by my Department for An Taibhdhearc is identified as a priority in the Government’s 5-Year Action Plan for the Irish Language 2018-2022.
