Ceisteanna (218)

Duncan Smith

Ceist:

218. Deputy Duncan Smith asked the Minister for Transport if the flight paths of commercial airlines are prohibited or restricted from flying over Ballyboughal, County Dublin from the new north runway especially given the huge increase in the number of airlines flying over the village since the north runway opened which is impacting on the daily lives of residents; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) is the State agency responsible for the provision of air traffic management in Irish controlled airspace. Following communication with the IAA, I understand that there are currently no flight restrictions in the Ballyboughal area.

In relation to aircraft noise from aircraft arriving and departing at Dublin airport, the Aircraft Noise Competent Authority (ANCA) within Fingal County Council is responsible for ensuring that noise generated by aircraft activity at Dublin Airport is assessed in accordance with EU and Irish legislation and that the 'Balanced Approach' is applied where a noise problem at the airport is identified.
