Deputy Catherine Connolly asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage if his attention has been drawn to matters raised in correspondence (details supplied); the engagement that he has had with the group on foot of the issues raised in same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Since 1 January 2014, Irish Water has statutory responsibility for all aspects of water services planning, delivery and operation at national, regional and local levels. My Department has no operational function in this matter.
Irish Water is required by national regulations to consult with the Health Service Executive in all cases where a supply of water constitutes a potential danger to human health and Irish Water must ensure consumers are informed promptly and given the necessary advice.
The Environmental Protection Agency is the environmental regulator with responsibility for enforcing quality standards and compliance with the EU Directives and national regulations for the provision of drinking water.
