Ceisteanna (485)

Seán Sherlock

Ceist:

485. Deputy Sean Sherlock asked the Minister for Justice if she has received a notification or any other such correspondence from the Garda Commissioner in relation to the location of the Criminal Assets Bureau to Heuston Station; and if such correspondence refers to any measure by An Garda Síochána to reduce the capability of CAB to be able to carry out its core functions due to a reduced number of staff who may be redeployed elsewhere. As the Deputy may be aware, the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) is a statutory body with staff drawn from An Garda Síochána, the Office of the Revenue Commissioners (including Customs), the Department of Social Protection and the Department of Justice.

I can inform the Deputy that there is no proposal to reduce the staffing of the Bureau.  Competitions are currently underway to fill vacancies across all four agencies.  I can also confirm that CAB are relocating to the newly completed Walter Scott House on Military Road, next to Heuston Station, not into Heuston Station itself.
