Richard Boyd Barrett
Ceist:
300. Deputy Richard Boyd Barrett asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine when the Land Commission was dissolved in 1989 with 2,500 ha of agricultural land, if he can ascertain the amount of that land that was gifted to Coillte/NPWS; if so, if he will provide a breakdown by estate, area, acreage, and so on; the amount of this land that is still in Coillte/NPWS control; the amount that has been sold off; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As this information is not readily available, a response will issue directly to the Deputy within 10 days.
The following deferred reply was received under Standing Order 51.
The Irish Land Commission (ILC) was dissolved on 31 March 1999 pursuant to the Irish Land Commission (Dissolution) Act 1992. The Bill was published in 1989 while the Act was published in 1992 but not commenced until 1999. As stated in the Minister’s reply, the amount of land that was gifted to Coillte and the NPWS is not readily available within the records of the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine. Statistics relating to the allotment of former Irish land Commission lands are not compiled in the format sought.
I have therefore forwarded your queries to Coillte and NPWS who have checked their records and confirmed the following.

Coillte and NPWS have both confirmed that all of the lands listed are still within their ownership and control and have not been sold.
