Ceisteanna (125)

Ruairí Ó Murchú

Ceist:

125. Deputy Ruairí Ó Murchú asked the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage if there is guidance on the proof of income documents that are acceptable for social housing applicants who are employed in the North; if this guidance can be printed on local authorities’ social housing applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The documentation required as proof of income is set out in the social housing application form. There is no distinction made in this regard vis-à-vis applicants employed in Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Local authorities have discretion as to the extent of documentation it deems necessary as proof of income for the preceding 12 months. In certain situations, for example, where a particular document cannot be provided or is not available, the local authority may request alternative documentation to satisfy itself in relation to the specific information being sought.
