1400. Deputy Duncan Smith asked the Minister for Health the estimated cost in 2024 of reducing prescription charges to €1 per item with a cap of €10 for all, or to 50 cent per item with a cap of €5 for all; the overall cost of abolishing the charges; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Health Service Executive (HSE) has responsibility for the administration of the community drug schemes, including the General Medical Services Scheme. Therefore, this matter has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputy, as soon as possible.
