179. Deputy Violet-Anne Wynne asked the Minister for Transport if costs incurred by a family in the course of an inquest will be reimbursed by the State (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [54376/23]
Amharc ar fhreagraMs. Lucas was a very highly regarded and valued volunteer in the Coast Guard who tragically lost her life in the course of duty on the 12th September 2016. The Department of Transport has fully engaged in supporting the Coroner’s Inquest into her death and accepts the findings and recommendations made by the Coroner. Detailed consideration of how best to implement the recommendations is now underway.
The Lucas family has been advised that the Minister is willing to reimburse reasonable legal costs in connection with having appropriate legal representation at the Inquest.
