Vol. 6 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - COMPENSATION OF DISCHARGED SOLDIER.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that Private Evans, No. 14073, of Ballymore-Eustace, Co. Kildare, who attested at Naas Barracks on the 11th September, 1922, and was discharged on the 8th November, 1923, as "Medically Unfit," is suffering from defective eyesight due to his service in the Army, and whether the question of compensation to this man will be favourably considered.

I am aware that Private Evans was discharged from the Army as medically unfit on the 8th November last suffering from defective eyesight due to trachoma. This is a chronic disease, to which military service does not attach any special liability. It is not possible to entertain a claim for compensation.
