Vol. 6 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MAINTENANCE OF MILITARY CAMPS.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the annual costs of maintenance, respectively, for such open camps as Tallaght, Collinstown, and Gormanstown; for what purpose each of these camps is being used, and if, and when, it is proposed to dispense with these camps.

It is not possible at present to state the costs of maintenance of the camps referred to. Tallaght Camp is being used as workshops and for storage purposes by the Army Corps of Engineers and some technical units, and it is not proposed to dispense with it. Collinstown Camp is not being used for Army purposes. Gormanstown Camp accommodates the Headquarters of the Mechanical Transport Corps and a Battalion of Infantry, and until recently it was also used as an internment camp. It is expected that in the course of some months it will not be required by the Army. It is not feasible at present to say what will be the future use of those camps.
