Vol. 6 No. 2

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - LABOURERS' COTTAGES SCHEME IN FERMOY.

asked the Minster for Local Government what steps, if any, are being taken to proceed with the scheme for labourers' cottages of the Fermoy Rural Council and approved by the Local Government Inspector, in view of the fact that there is urgent need of those houses in the Clondulane district.

No steps are being taken in this matter. There are no funds available at present from Government sources for the purpose of providing additional cottages under the Labourers Acts. If the Council are desirous of carrying out the uncompleted portion of their 1908 Scheme, consideration will be given to an application from them for sanction to the borrowing of the necessary monies from their Treasurer.

Arising out of that answer, I would like to ask the Minister if he is aware of the fact that in any places in the County Cork, where schemes for labourers cottages have been held up, the plots have been used. and are being used, and the fences knocked down by farmers on whose lands the plots were marked, but who have been paid already in respect of them?

I am not aware of that
