Vol. 6 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - IMPERIAL ECONOMIC CONFERENCE REPORT.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he would circulate amongst Deputies the report of the proceedings of the Imperial Economic Conference held some time ago in London, at which representatives of the Irish Free State attended?

Copies of the Report of the proceedings of the Imperial Economic Conference are not available for circulation amongst Deputies. The Report is a British Government publication, and can be purchased from any bookseller at the price of 5/- net. Arrangements are being made by the Clerk of the Dáil to have two copies of the Report placed in the Deputies' Room for consultation.

Does the Minister know that there are reports of the proceedings of this Conference available in the British Dominions?

I am aware of that, and, as I said here, copies are placed, or are being placed, in the Deputies' Room for consultation.

Will they be available for printing in this country, and, if so, will they be printed by the Stationery Office or will they be left to private enterprise?

It seems hardly necessary to publish this very big book in full, a great deal of which is not interesting to people in this country. These publications are left in the Deputies' Room. Later on we will publish such portions of it as really affect us.

That is the point I wish to draw attention to. When are we likely to receive from the Minister such information as he thinks would be appropriate to this country?

I have not, as far as the Imperial Conference is concerned, received a detailed report myself. Most of the recommendations that were brought forward both in the Economic Conference and the Imperial Conference are only of an advisory nature, and any matter that we wish to adhere to will be brought before this Dáil, and it will be for the Dáil to sanction it beforehand.
