Vol. 6 No. 28

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - GALWAY COMPENSATION CLAIM.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has received repeated claims for compensation from James Naughton, of High Street, Galway, on account of a Ford car which was commandeered and retained by the military (a) from December 21st, 1921, to January 27th, 1922, and (b) from July 29th, 1922, to October 5th, 1922; whether he is aware that on its return in January, 1922, the owner had to expend a considerable sum in repairs, and that it was returned in October, 1922, in a broken and ruinous condition, and whether he will see that this long outstanding claim is immediately settled.

Claims have been received from Mr. Naughton. The claim for the first period arose prior to the inception of the late Provisional Government. The general question as to how claims of the kind are to be treated has yet to receive consideration. Pending a general decision, it is regretted that the particular claim in question cannot be given attention.

The claim in respect of the second period is being considered, and it is hoped to effect its settlement at an early date.
