Vol. 6 No. 31

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - EMPLOYMENT OF IRISH AGRICULTURAL LABOURERS IN FRANCE.

TOMAS MAC EOIN

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he can give any information as to any arrangements made or in contemplation with the Minister for Agriculture of the French Republic for the employment of Irish agricultural labourers in France.

No arrangement has been made—nor is any in contemplation— with the French Ministry of Agriculture for the employment of Irish agricultural labourers in France.

Is the Minister aware that the International Labour Office circulated a statement to the effect that arrangements are being made with French organisations and the Irish organisations for the employment of agricultural labourers in France?

Mr. HOGAN

What I said is that no arrangements had been made nor was there anything contemplated. There was a proposal made to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and considered by them with the French Consul representing the French Ministry of Agriculture. The proposal was considered in detail, and it was decided by both that there was nothing in it, and that it was not feasible.
