Vol. 6 No. 31

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE. - REPRESENTATION OF THE PEOPLE AND ELECTORAL ACTS.

I move: "That a Supplementary sum, not exceeding £10, be granted to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1924, for expenses under the Representation of the People Act, 1918, and under the Electoral Act, 1923."

This is a formal Supplementary Estimate, and it is required for technical reasons only. The money required to recoup the local authorities to the extent of half of the expenditure incurred by them in the preparation of the register was provided for in the original Estimate. Since that Estimate was prepared the Electoral Act has been passed, and the title of the original votes which were included in the Appropriation Act are no longer appropriate to the purpose. This Supplementary Vote, therefore, is to enable the recoupment of half of the expenses incurred in the preparation of the first register under the Electoral Act.

Question put and agreed to.
