Vol. 6 No. 37

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BEER AND STOUT PRICES.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the circular on economy issued by the Government to local bodies, which has resulted in reductions in wages throughout the country, it is intended to reduce the duty payable on beer and stout by one pound per barrel, and on whiskey by £1 2s. 6d. per gallon, and whether representations will be made to licensed traders to reduce their retail prices to those charged previous to the last increase of duty imposed by the British Government.

The answer to the first part of the question is that it is not possible for me to anticipate my Budget statement.

The second part of the question, therefore, does not arise.

Is the Minister going to cause any reduction on these duties so as to reduce the cost of living for the workers? Might I ask the President when it is his intention to introduce the long promised Bill with a view to reducing the cost of living?

That question has been already answered.
