Vol. 6 No. 37

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - POSTAL CHARGES.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Postmaster-General whether it is intended to reduce the price of telegrams, telephone calls, and postage stamps for the current financial year, and, if so, if he will state what the new figures will be.

These matters are at present under investigation and will form a subject for discussion later with the Minister for Finance. It is not possible at this stage to state what the outcome of the investigation will be.

Fees for local calls made from Public Call Offices have been reduced since the 1st instant from 3d. to 2d. in the case of calls to an Exchange within a radius of 5 miles, and from 4½d. or 5d. to 4d. to an Exchange between 5 and 7½ miles distant.

When is it likely that postage facilities will be cheaper than they are at present? When is it proposed to reduce the postage on a letter from 2d. to 1½d., and to reduce the postage on postcards to 1d.?
