Vol. 7 No. 12

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CHARGES FOR MOTOR HIRE.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has received accounts from Frank Smeaton, Church Street, Rathdowney Leix, for £43 17s., representing charges for motor hire incurred by military officers stationed at Rathdowney during the period March to August, 1923, and if he will give instructions to have this account settled without further delay.

Accounts amounting to £43 17s. 0d. have been received from Mr. Smeaton, and their settlement is being expedited.

In view of the fact that copies of this account have been sent several times since August, 1923, to the local barracks, to the Commanding Officer of the local area, to Portobello Barracks, as well as a copy sent by myself, and that this man is dependent entirely for his living on this business, will the Minister see his way to have this account paid without further delay? This is one of a number of cases that have come under my notice.

There are some still over.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has received repeated applications from William Wheeler, Rathdowney, Leix, for payment of an amount of £113 2s., representing charges due for driving military officers stationed at Rathdowney during the period commencing July 20th, 1922, and ending October 4th, 1923, and if he will give instructions to have this account settled without further delay.

Applications have been received from Mr. Wheeler whose claim is under local investigation. The necessary enquiries will be made as quickly as possible.
