Vol. 7 No. 15

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BILLETING ACCOUNTS.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that there is money due to Mrs. Nora O'Sullivan, West End, Millstreet, Co. Cork, in respect of part of a billeting account, and if he will state when this account is likely to be paid.

The only account received from Mrs. O'Sullivan amounted to £84, and was duly paid—£50 in August last, and £34 in November.

Is the Minister aware that the amount has not been paid in full, that in fact it was only paid in part? Is he aware also that the amount for billeting is 6s. 6d. a day, and that on the instructions of the local military officer this lady changed her original claim to 3s. 6d. a day, and was paid on the 3s. 6d. per day basis, and that after she had been paid the Army Finance Officer allowed 6s. 6d. per day all round? There were two or three changes made in the account, but she was promised she would be paid the remainder, that is to say, the difference between 6s. 6d. and 3s. 6d. per day, but she has not yet been paid.

I have no information. As I have already said, this lady was paid £50 in August last and £34 in November.

On the 3s. 6d. per day basis?

I could not say, really.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state when it is intended to pay Mr. Joseph Howard, Railway Hotel, Millstreet, Co. Cork, his account of about £43 due for billetting troops.

Mr. Howard's claim was assessed and paid at the rates authorised for the billetting of troops. The deductions were made in respect of overcharges and are being explained to him.
